What is the 'Circular Ambassador Program' or 'CAP'?

The Circular Ambassador Program (CAP) is a 7-day training program to become a circular ambassador, offering a unique combination of knowledge and skills and the chance to join a great community sharing their skills and knowledge to grow together.

In a circular economy, solutions are often spread across the entire value chain. Requiring a combination of collaboration, sustainable (product) design, as well as circular business models and processes – all whilst trying to convince those still outside the circular ecosystem. This demands not only knowledge of the circular economy, but also the skills to turn that knowledge into concrete action to initiate change within organisations. That is why the CAP was created, to shape ambitious professionals into Circular Ambassadors.

CAP has succeeded in this aim by presenting a highly interactive program that combines the application of qualitative and thorough circular economy (CE) theory with skills development and a practical application of both to real-life cases. It provides participants with a complete skillset to get started with CE and inspire others to do the same. In addition, the selection process ensures that the right people are put together, creating a network of Circular Ambassadors who reinforce and encourage each other from start to finish.

Why a train-the-trainer edition?

The CAP concept has shown its value in the previous three editions. Such a large number of registrations showed that there is a real need for these skills and knowledge sharing among a diverse target audience. With many CAP participants taking new steps after the program, changing jobs or growing within their organisations to incorporate circular economy principles. CAP thus had a positive impact in shaping the next steps of their careers.

This shows the potential of programs like CAP being offered more widely. Through this train-the-trainer edition, we hope that education programs across Europe can in turn create new ambassadors, supporting the acceleration of the circular transition. Therefore, we look forward to sharing our lessons to inspire you to design your own training programs more holistically and bring these 'change making skills'.

The program

The program consists of 7 training days, two online days and a 5-day in-person bootcamp. You will learn about the circular economy and change making skills, immerse yourself in a case in order to experience first-hand what the impact is for learners, and reflect on teaching practices. Through our interactive set-up and creative methods, we will put aside time to learn from each other and expand your skillset.

Online program

On the first day we introduce the foundational principles and the broader European context of the Circular Economy. The second day revolves around the cases: the 10 teams will start exploring the challenge at hand and its value chain.

In-person bootcamp

During the physical bootcamp, we go through 7 modules and the final event in five days. These days are highly interactive and combine theory with case work and method reflection. During the first three days, participants explore solutions for their cases while learning about ecodesign, creative idea generation and business models. This phase culminates with a pitching event in closed circle on Wednesday evening.

The last two days focus on teaching and applying the learnings onto the individual context. Participants no longer work on the case, but develop a mini-course in new groups. They will give a demo to a broader audience on the last day, where they can collect real-time feedback from each other and the public.

Throughout the entire program, method reflection will be added. At well-chosen moments, we reflect as a group on how certain concepts and tools were explained, and how this affects the experience for learners. This allows participants to decide which insights they want to take back to their own training and how.
