Zonnige Kempen sets good example with circular offices

Pioneer in sustainable building Zonnige Kempen wanted to set an example when they had to renovate their headquarters. The housing company put maximum effort into circularity: everything that is fitted can be taken out again. That way you can easily expand or redesign the building later.

Circularity as a logical choice
As a pioneer in the field of sustainable and circular social housing in Belgium and Europe, it was logical for Zonnige Kempen that circularity played the leading role when their own offices in Westerlo were due for expansion. It was convenient that the office building on the Grote Markt still offered room for “infill” on multiple building levels. Since the renovation, the building has doubled in size. The former parking lot is now also office space.

From office to housing
Rotor from Brussels was responsible for the search for suitable circular materials. Among other things, they discovered an old parquet floor in a former doctor's house in Vorselaar, which now serves as an office ceiling. The granite floor comes from an office building in Brussels. All materials in the interior, including the brick walls and tiles, can be easily taken apart or rebuilt again. As a result, the building can be changed later. For example, the ground plan of the office can be converted quite easily into three senior housing units.

Zonnige Kempen has been part of residential company LeefGoed since July 1, 2023.
