What De Lijn does with its discarded buses and trams? Not take them to the scrap yard. They recover as many parts as possible. Including the fabric of the seats. Together with Komrads, De Lijn turns them into trainers. Komrads is a Belgian brand that makes sustainable trainers from reused recycled and certified materials. Waste, in other words.
The trendy and comfortable SEATRS prove that style and sustainability go hand in hand. Komrads makes them with as little environmental impact as possible. The sole consists of 90% recycled biorubber and 10% old trainers. The base is made from plastic fished out of the sea and rivers. And yes, recycled seat fabric with the well-known De Lijn print also adorns the shoes, along with other recycled materials. The old bus or tram you once sat in thus becomes the trainer on someone's feet.
With their nod to bus and tram seats, the SEATRS have not stolen their name. They fit perfectly into De Lijn's sustainable 'Move towards less CO2' story: reducing CO2 by encouraging people to leave their cars at home more often and by replacing old diesel buses with electric ones. De Lijn is also promoting combi mobility with it. The bike, the scooter and your 2 feet are also alternatives for getting around sustainably. Especially if you then also have SEATRS on your feet.
