About our management
Who steers what at Flanders Circular?
The current zeitgeist of ecological and social challenges is pushing us to rethink and transform our built environment. Our densely populated and congested cities need more breathing space. We prefer to create that without taking up extra free space. So do more with less: that's the motto of Redevelop, a design firm committed to circular urban redevelopment.
The building stock in our country consists mainly of post-war concrete structures. They were designed with a focus on functionality and cheap construction, but with little regard for their impact on the environment. Their deteriorating condition is accelerating the debate over what their future looks like: demolition or renovation.
According to Redevelop, a building is never really finished. It can always be modified or transformed to take on a new form or function. The firm challenges the common practice of demolition in redevelopment projects and is committed to retrofitting: innovative renovation that can extend structural life, improve architectural quality and avoid wasteful demolition.
Successful examples include the West Side project in Knokke and the master plan study of Kruishof 3 in Antwerp.
