Houtconnect aims to get construction professionals excited about timber construction

Can timber construction make us build and live more sustainably? 6 players from the wood sector think so. They founded the online B2B platform Houtconnect, with which they want to inspire construction professionals about building with wood.

Houtconnect is a timber construction platform of Ecohuis, Houthandel Paulussen, ISOPROC, PUUR Bouwen, Sidati and Sweco. On their platform and in their newsletters, they bring a mix of news around timber construction, each time from a different expertise angle. Think of (international) projects, product innovations, technical articles and double interviews with a client and architect from the timber construction sector.

In their articles, they also tackle prejudices about the timber sector that, in their opinion, ... do not make sense. Such as: that houses made of wood insulate worse, are more likely to have moisture problems or always look like a log cabin. Palindroom, the content agency that is also behind Circubuild and Architectura, provides the content and manages the platform.

Timber construction reduces CO2 emissions
Is timber construction really better for people and the environment? Yes, it is. Like trees in nature, a timber building stores CO2, which considerably reduces its carbon dioxide emissions. Moreover, the material is a good insulator. Here, a wood-built house requires much less energy to heat up and retain heat than a masonry house. This is nicely on track with Europe's tightening regulations, which increasingly demand CO2-absorbing buildings.

Renewable and recyclable
In addition, wood is a renewable material: for example, wood from sustainably managed forests grows again several times over the lifetime of a house. Is a wooden building, like a traditional house, due for renovation after 75 years? Then the wood is often still perfectly recyclable, and can be given a second life as sheet material or biofuel.
