From linear to circular

CPP (circular product passport) in mechanical engineering

To move the life cycle of machines and installations from linear to circular, Clusta is developing a circular product passport together with various partners from the manufacturing industry. When more is known about the origin, properties, use and availability of materials, it will be possible to focus more on reuse and repair.

The lifespan of machines is often still linear: at the end of their use, machines and installations disappear as scrap on the scrap heap. Only some of the parts get a new use. To make the mechanical engineering sector more circular, Clusta, together with various partners from the manufacturing industry, wants to take the reuse of materials and reuse of parts to the next level by using a circular product passport (CPP). This takes into account the value chain perspective for actors in the value chain. The passport tells more about the origin, properties, use and availability of materials.

The focus is on hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components and machine parts with high-quality alloy elements so that efforts can be made to reuse their parts and materials in an efficient and transparent way. This project, in which both producers and users play an important role, should become the basis for a roll-out across the machinery sector and later to other sectors.

A strong communication campaign will ensure that the project becomes known to all relevant actors. This will expose them to the new knowledge and information in a stimulating way.
