Exchange store Het Wisselke and De Uitwissel

Exchange of baby gear, sports and leisure equipment

Hasselt pays close attention to families who are not well-off or want their clothes reused. That is why the city started 2 swap shops. In Het Wisselke, parents can swap clothes, toys and items for children aged 0 to 3. Through the webshop De Uitwissel, they exchange sports and leisure clothes and equipment for children up to 18 years old.

Selling and buying with stamps

Babies, children and young people quickly outgrow their clothes and the items you buy for them. Often, these are by no means worn out by then. But still you are faced with a new purchase. To avoid that, as a parent you can bring your children's things that are too small but still in good condition to Het Wisselke. At De Uitwissel, you can leave them in one of the collection boxes around town or bring them in during the walk-in free time at the House of the Child. At Het Wisselke and during the walk-in free time, you will receive stamps in exchange. With these stamps, you can choose new items to give to your children in the shop and the web shop.

Special attention for families in difficulty

At Het Wisselke, you will find everything from clothes to care materials to transport for babies and toddlers. All families in Hasselt get the chance to pick up clothes and stuff for their babies and toddlers for free. This is why the exchange shop also works with various partners such as Kind en Gezin, the OCMW and Jessa Hospital. If they notice that families are really struggling financially or in urgent need of new clothes or items, they give full stamp cards. This way, even those people can come and get stuff for free and later exchange them for new stuff.

Easier access to a sports club or youth association

De Uitwissel has a very nice range of sportswear and tennis rackets to equipment for youth clubs. The city thus wants to remove some barriers to give all Hasselt children and young people the opportunity to join a sports club or youth association. The exact locations of the collection boxes to leave your clothes and equipment can be found on their website. Order placed? You can pick it up every Wednesday afternoon at the House of the Child. The decision to turn De Uitwissel into a webshop was a hit. The city has noticed that many people use it.

Youth movements, sports clubs and schools can also turn to De Uitwissel. They can borrow ski suits, sleeping bags and camp beds for the camps and school trips they organise.
