De Buurtsportwinkel

Sport is healthy, for everyone

There is no doubt that sport is good for your physical and mental health. So we all benefit from sports being accessible to everyone, but this is far from being the case everywhere. At the Buurtsportwinkel in Mechelen, they make sure that those in a vulnerable situation can still exercise, with free second-hand sportswear and equipment.

Everyone undoubtedly has sports equipment at home that is no longer used, but is still in good condition. A shame to just throw them away. Especially when you can easily bring them to the Buurtsportwinkel in Mechelen: a city initiative to give used sportswear and equipment a second life. The shop also collects usable items from clubs and associations free of charge.

People entitled to an increased allowance can visit the shop for free. In this way, the initiative aims to activate vulnerable people as much as possible to participate in club life, an important springboard for a strong social safety net in our society. Especially for young people, good sports equipment is important to play sports without complexes.

Those entitled to it get a neighbourhood sports card for a year with 15 points. Clothing and equipment cost 1 to 3 points. The shop also has a seating area where visitors can find out about the sports on offer in Mechelen. Social services will be happy to drop by to help with registrations.

Do you have sports gear left over, used but still in great shape? Garage, attic or basement cleared out? And do you live in (the vicinity of) Mechelen? Bring everything to the Buurtsportwinkel!
