Chemical company Vynova reduces groundwater consumption

With a state-of-the art installation, Vynova is drastically reducing the groundwater consumption of its production processes. The plant no longer uses groundwater to produce ultra-pure process water or demineralised water. This is in line with Vynova's broader strategy for sustainable innovation.

Chemical company Vynova has already invested more than 250 million euros in sustainable technologies at its Tessenderlo site since 2016. Their most recent project is a plant to produce ultra-pure process water, or demineralised water.

Demineralised water is essential for production processes that require water of the highest quality. The new production facility at their Tessenderlo site no longer uses groundwater to produce demineralised water. This means annual savings equivalent to the tap water consumption of more than 1,000 households. At the same time, it also improves the site's waste flows and wastewater quality.

Zuhal Demir, Flemish Minister of Environment and Energy underlines the importance of such investments: ‘By purifying and optimally using their company water, Vynova is setting a good example to counteract the structural drought and water scarcity in Flanders.’
